Before La Case aux Vents

 

In 1995, Yvette and Mathieu happily purchased the family cottage from their neighbour friend, Dédé - a lover of Martinique, originally from the Champagne wine region in France. Dede wished to pass on his house to people who would appreciate, cherish, and lovelily care for it. He had a passion for Martinique's local art and a deep love for its simple, joyful lifestyle—a spirit Yvette & Mathieu preserved, maintaining its original essence throughout the years.

The beginnings

​Yvette and Mathieu are not from the hospitality world. Mathieu, a former school director and teacher, and Yvette, a retired principal assistant, had no hospitality experience. Despite this, their innate warmth, genuine care, and welcoming demeanour appeared to have left a lasting impression on their guests. They won the Gîtes de France "Host of the Year" award  - twice - and have been Airbnb Superhosts for the last five years.
